Building Bright Futures is an umbrella initiative that supports young people with an intellectual and/or developmental disability (IDD), aged 14-21 and exiting the Ontario education system, to begin planning and building futures firmly rooted in community. This past summer, Facile Perth applied for funding from the Libro Credit Union to support them in building a pathway to the world of work for youth in Perth and Huron. In early fall, Libro announced it has chosen this project as part of this year’s funding program.

As part of this project, youth with a disability, who have employment goals, will have the opportunity to receive 1-1 supports from a facilitator to reach their goals. This initiative seeks to support youth to gain work-related experience and career development, in their interest areas and within their community, during their transition to adulthood.  The three main objectives of the project are to develop an employment network, offer young people with job-related mentorship and to provide youth with 1-1 facilitation and pre-employment training. This initiative seeks to support proactive skill development and ongoing transition planning.

We reached out to Libro for a comment.

We’re achieving that through supporting organizations like Facile Perth, by providing funding to leverage their existing programs. Together, we’re empowering people experiencing barriers and their families to thrive with good money sense, helping them find financial stability and plan for the future.
