Andy is well known around Stratford and has always had a love for music.
He developed a desire to be a DJ when he was in the CICE program at Lambton College. He got his first DJ board when he was in college. He now has two DJ boards and has been a DJ for 10 years. He has played at many venues, the Hub, Community Living Stratford, St. Marys Street Party, his DJ den just to name a few. There are too many to name but he has quite a long list. A highlight for Andy was being the DJ at his cousin’s wedding in Whitehorse this past summer.
During Covid, Andy would host virtual DJ parties so his friends could enjoy his music and dance. He would always be sure to ask if anyone had any requests and would be sure to play them. When asked what he likes most about being a DJ he said “I like to play music for my friends and other people’s friends”. He eagerly hands out his business cards wherever he goes. His business is suitably called DJ Schaik It Up. In the future Andy would like to get bigger flyers around town to advertise his business. He would also like to be known as “DJ Schaik It Up”.
With some creative thinking and the help of their dads, A &A Birdseed was born.
The A & A stands for two friends, Andrew and Andy. Their business started during Covid. Andrew weighs the birdseed and puts it into bags at his parents feed store and then drops off the bags at Andy’s DJ den. Andy delivers the orders on his bike. When the weather is bad he will deliver by bus or arranges pick up at the Farmer’s Market. The two friends started selling birdseed at the Stratford Farmer’s Market when things were back up running again after Covid. Their space at the market has doubled since they started there almost 5 years ago. With the help of their support networks, they have gained the skills to be as independent as possible with the business. Many friends and acquaintances stop by to say hello at the market.
Andy has another job that he was able to get on his own without any help. He works at Harvey’s once a week. If you go to Harvey’s he will put your choice of toppings on your burger. He has been working there for a year and a half. Andy has shared his passion for music with others, built relationships within his community and is a contributing citizen. Way to go Andy!
